Flyhigh MNL has dedicted flight attendant day to retrenched cabin crew

Today is International Flight Attendant Day where we recognize the dedication and hard work of our flight attendants. However, this crisis proved to be a devastating moment as many flight attendants have lost their jobs. Despite that, flight attendant social media page and online magazine Flyhigh MNL made sure that no one gets left behind. Hence, Flyhigh MNL has dedicated flight attendant day to retrenched cabin crew members.

In a Facebook post, Flyhigh MNL has requested cabin crew members, particularly those who were retrenched to send in their pictures in uniform. The result? They received more pictures enough to cover 48 hours of posting every 30 minutes.

According to Mond Ortiz, “if you will look at the recent pictures of flight attendants that we have posted for International Flight Attendant Day, most of them are flight attendants who were retrenched. Sadly, most of them are our followers even prior to becoming a cabin crew. Seeing their social media status about them having to let go of their dreams which they worked hard for was truly heartbreaking.

“I did not want them to feel that they are no longer a cabin crew. No! I want them to realize that they are flight attendants. Lets not forget, once a flight attendant, always a flight attendant. This is why we dedicated International Flight Attendant Day to them.” Mond said.

Why is World Cabin Crew Awareness Day celebrated?

According to Flyhigh MNL, May 31, today, is known as International Flight Attendant Day or World Cabin Crew Awareness Day. This is a special day where we recognize the efforts and dedication of these flight attendants who continue to work hard in order to ensure the safety of passengers.

There is still no solid written history as to how World Flight Attendant day started but it said that the patron saint of flight attendants, Bona of Pisa, celebrates her feast day on May 29. Bona of Pisa was a third member of the third order of Augustinian nuns and she was the one who helped lead travellers on pilgrimages. So maybe there is a connection of the May 31 date to the feast day of the patron saint of cabin crew members.

These flight attendants continue to remain optimistic

Despite all that had happened, our flight attendants continue to remain optimistic that everything will bounce back. They are sure that many are just so excited to travel again as we all continue to wait for travel restrictions to be lifted.

While all active flight attendants continue to just hang on despite the uncertainty, they continue to pray hard that the aviation industry will recover sooner.

The “walang iwanan” spirit

According also to Mond Ortiz, “Flyhigh MNL’s new tagline is ‘flying with you’, which has a double meaning. For our cabin crew aspirants, it’s like ‘we are flying with you on your journey to become a canin crew.’ For our present flight attendants, it is ‘we are flying with you in good times and in bad.’ So I guess we have to live by our commitment through our services and products.”

Flyhigh MNL continues to encourage all cabin crew, whether flying or not, to continue sending in their pictures in uniform. As they say, every day is flight attendant day in Flyhigh Manila.

A happy International Flight Attendant Day to all our airline cabin crew! We salute you always!
