PAL and Cebu Pacific continue to fly Covid-19 vaccines

Philippine Airlines (PAL) and Cebu Pacific (CEB) continue to airlift Covid-19 vaccines around the country and from international sources. Just today, PAL flew 500,000 doses of SinoVac vaccines from Beijing, China. This is the third time PAL flew vaccines from an international hub to Manila. Last March 24, a PAL Boeing 777-300ER returned to Manila from Beijing carrying 400,000 doses of SinoVac. Last March 29, PAL airlifted 1,000,000 doses of vaccines from Beijing to Manila. A total of 1,900,000 Covid-19 vaccines had so far been airlifted by PAL from Beijing to Manila.

PAL has also flown around half a million Covid-19 vaccines around the Philippines like Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legaspi, Cagayan De Oro, and other cities as the country continue to face a surge of new Covid-19 cases. The Philippines during the past few days have been recording an average of 10,000 new Covid-19 cases per day.

CEB also continues to transport vaccines around the country. To date, the airline has flown 130,800 dosages of vaccines to the Visayas and Mindanao area. They are also the only commercial in the country that operates dedicated cargo aircraft. Two ATR 72-500s were converted from a passenger aircraft to a full cargo aircraft. An A330-300 was also converted into a “preighter” or a passenger aircraft turned freighter aircraft, by removing the seats and installing other equipment in order to hold more cargo in the cabin safely.

Local airlines have been playing a huge role in the fight versus Covid-19 by transporting vaccines, medical equipment, essential cargo, and medical frontliners around the country. This is why the Philippine government should give importance to this airlines, the same way as how they give so much importance to the ongoing infrastructure projects. Our airlines are part of the infrastructure as air connectivity is very important in a country’s economic development.
