Airlines are finding ways and means to cope up with the drop in air travel demand as a result of the covid-19 pandemic and most have resorted to cargo. In the Philippines, the airlifting of cargo has been very crucial given the fact that the country is an archipelago. AirAsia Philippines continues to build on its commercial cargo as it expands operations in Zamboanga.
Starting next month, AirAsia is looking to move 4 tons of cargo per day through its logistics partner, Teleport. This new development will enable also AirAsia to fly more goods which will better cater to the logistic needs of Southern Mindanao via Zamboanga.
Badjao communities in Zamboanga get more help via AirAsia
As part of its corporate social responsibility program, AirAsia in partnership with Asian Hospital Charities, Inc. (AHCI) has delivered help to displaced Badjao communities in Zamboanga. Among those are 17 boxes of sewing machines, pocket wi-fi units, AirAsia alwaysREDy care kits, and other AirAsia gift items.
The sewing machines are needed to jumpstart livelihood projects and to sustain Badjao communities in different barangays. The products generated from these livelihood projects will be sold via online selling platforms.
AirAsia has also been very supportive of various indigenous tribes in Southern Mindanao. In 2020, around 65 family beneficiaries received solar-powered lamps through its alwaysREDy to Light it forward project with Liter of Light.
“AirAsia is happy to partner with Asian Charities in bringing livelihood to our Badjao brothers and sisters. We believe this sustainable initiative will enable them to get through the pandemic as they expand market opportunities.”

AirAsia Philippines together with other airlines have now focused on the movement of cargo to compensate for the loss of income from low passenger travel demand.
