A purpose-driven career of a ground attendant

We all want to have a career that will push us to become the better version of ourselves; a purpose to serve and a work that matters. It is indeed true that finding our purpose in what we do is a lifelong process of adventure. But no matter how difficult it may become, enjoying the journey is something that will drive us to our purpose. Without a purpose in our chosen career is a tragedy, yet, living a purpose-driven career is a kind of victory.

“Purpose fuels passion”

To some, working in the Airline industry is an easy type of job, but to Stephanie Kaye Ventura it is a tough yet fulfilling kind of career. Maybe if we’re able to visit the airport, you’ll get to see a smiling Ground Attendant or Passenger Service Agent (PSA) like her taking full responsibility for the duties in her position.

Just like one of us, during Stephanie’s childhood, she has once wondered what it looked like inside an airplane and blissfully watching the planes in the sky passing the clouds. She even told herself that “One day – I am one of the passengers sitting there.”  Aren’t we all?

Yet, at first, Stephanie’s dream is just to get to experience sitting in a passenger seat and never even had a thought of becoming one of the crews. According to her, one of her ultimate dreams is becoming an Architect, a Teacher, or a Veterinarian. Fortunately, one of their family friends got to see her passion and qualified appearance of hers to be a Flight Attendant one day. That ounce of mere vision created a big impact on her decision in life – she, later on, took Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management at Mariano Marcos State University in Batac Ilocos Norte.

As cliché as it may sound, it is indeed to be true that the process of achieving our dream will always be encountering roadblocks and confusion at times. Stephanie once questioned her purpose in pursuing the career path that she is walking through but with determination and eagerness, she finally embraced her purpose. It is a purpose that will transform a shy type of lady into a fully grown, confident, and empowered Stephanie Kaye Ventura.

As a rural person, transferring to Manila was a big challenge for Stephanie. Right after she graduated from college, she has encountered another hardship that challenges her heart to work in the airline industry. Thankfully, it is the faith in God and a purpose-driven life that has motivated her to go beyond her capabilities – from the journey of submitting resumes throughout the interviews, pieces of training, and exams she was able to land on her childhood dream. Finally, she achieved to be one of the Ground Attendants at Japan and Philippine Airlines.

It is an inspiring worthwhile story to begin with, that we may not understand what course we’ve taken at first but later on God will give us the purpose in life that fuels our passion in our chosen career.

May this reminder will keep us all determined to never stop chasing our dream and turning it into reality, “Many of us lost their job but remember that God is preparing us for a better position and future,” she says.

Victory all begins with a simple dream – that we can finally discover the purpose that drives us into reality.
