A Ground Attendant’s Story of Hope

As they say, everything does happen for a reason. It’s either good or bad, but for sure it has a purpose. When our plan doesn’t go according to what we want, some of the people are already embracing the road in giving up. But to a lady named Bianca Jhane Valle – a former Ground Attendant, giving up is not included in her vocabulary; but rather light of hope is instilled in her heart amidst life’s adversities. “Be a warrior, not a worrier” she tells.

At the age of 23, Bianca Jhane Valle already had an amazing childhood dream which has been her source of inspiration in times of pandemic. She is a lady who loves traveling and eating and is the sweet youngest daughter in their family.

When we think of an airport or airline industry, the Flight Attendant is what comes to our mind first. For the passengers to get on board safely, and organized, it is the responsibility of a Ground Attendant or Passenger Service Assistants (PSA) to assist their customers to get into the aircraft. According to Bianca, working in the airline industry is one of her dreams ever since she was 16-years-old. Becoming a flight attendant has already been in her mind. As for her to get much experience in the field, she started her journey of becoming a PSA in August 2019.

The pieces of training to become one had been stressful and challenging in absorbing all the information about the position and applying them into the actual job was quite nerve-racking at first; but fortunately, she was able to surpass it all. Bianca stated that the learning and personal experience gained in a Ground Attendant position can be perks for applying to a higher position in the industry. “Once you became a Ground Attendant – magiging stepping stone mo ‘to become an FA, since – it’s all about customer service,” she said.

While she was seizing the fulfilling moment that she had reached, the pandemic took place which led her to weep when the company announced the retrenchment situation.  “Super sad ko non and I [cried] talaga kasi parang ang bilis ng mga pangyayari”, she added. Truly, Bianca Valle, as a warrior of life said that battle raging is part of the journey. She is one of the individuals who have been affected by the pandemic causing her to lose her job as a Ground Attendant in Philippine Airlines (PAL) which is also affected by the current situation.

A warrior may be in a difficult war, but giving up should never be a choice to make. Bianca Valle regained her confidence in hoping for a better day to come, a life after COVID. She confidently says, “Pinipilit ko sa sarili ko na may dahilan bukod sa COVID – na everything happens for a reason. Lagi kong sinasabi sa sarili ko na babalik ako.” As she looks at her uniform, it motivates her heart to continue to dream again in coming back as a Ground Attendant and pursue to gain her wings as a Flight Attendant.

Bianca Valle as a warrior of life may have experience being perplexed by life’s challenges, but never will be crushed. In her life’s journey, may it be a reminder to us not to give up. Life is not designed to be easy and no one has said that it will be a smooth-sailing type of journey, because it is not. But take heart, let us learn from what she said, “Keep on praying na sana this pandemic will end very soon. Don’t give up. Time will come na aayon sa ating lahat ang panahon”. In this waiting season, let us take this opportunity to prepare you for a breakthrough in your aviation career in the future.

With all the hardships, let us continue to keep the faith. Let our hearts be on fire and continue in raising the flag of hope in pursuing our dream. Remember, that the most courageous way to live is being a” warrior”.
