The A380 fleet of China Southern Airlines will be retired

According to Chinese media reports, China Southern Airlines (CZ) has decided to retire its five A380 aircraft before the end of the year.

The airline announced last year that it would conduct an audit of its Superjumbo operations, with the findings determining the type’s future in the fleet.

When deciding on the review, China Southern had already said that running the type was too expensive because the planes were typically too huge. We still don’t know where the airline plans to park its five A380s until they’re retired.
The current status of the A380 fleet is as follows:

After a flight from Los Angeles International Airport, B-6136 (031) has been parked in Guangzhou since October 29, 2021 (CA).

After a trip from Paris-Charles de Gaulle, B-6137 (036) has been parked in Guangzhou since November 4, 2021.

B-6138 (054) is still flying and was last seen on February 17th flying to and from Los Angeles-International (CA).

B-6139 (088) is still operational, having flown to and from Sydney on February 20.

B-6140 (120) is still flying and was last seen on February 10th flying to and from Los Angeles-International (CA).
