Morning versus night: what is the best time to fly?

For a lot of travelers, the constant question of whether to leave before sunrise or after sunset has always been the big elephant in the room. However, researchers and experienced travelers have constantly shared that flying in the morning is always the best option. I know it doesn’t’ t look good for the night owls, but listen, not only does flying in the morning cost cheaper, but it will provide you lesser inconvenience than flying at night.

Traveling by night might be tempting, and a lot of you might think it’s more convenient, but in reality, it would cause you more stress and hassle. Research and data showed that flying in the morning causes fewer flight delays as the previous flights have already landed after their night flight. Air traffics usually starts to build up around 8 am according to research conducted by FiveThirtyEight; the peak of Air traffic would be by 6 pm, which causes a lot of flight delays. In addition, research and first-hand experiences showed that turbulence is lesser and unlikely in the morning compared to flying during the afternoon or at night. So if you’re not a fan of turbulence, I suggest you take the morning flight.

In addition, the reason why early morning flights are the best option is because of the view. Experienced travelers have shared that the most breathtaking airplane view that they have ever seen was during their early morning flights. Imagine waking up to a beautiful sunrise; it would feel more magical, so if you’re a fan of it, then I say go for an early flight and catch the sun as it rises right in front of your eyes, and also don’t forget to take some breathtaking shots for your gram.

Furthermore, in the Philippines, the traffic is just too much – words can’t even describe how terrible the traffic is here, and to add that traffic here could be very unexpected. When you book a flight at around 7 pm, most likely you have to leave your house 4 or 5 hours before your boarding, just to make sure you arrive before your plane leaves. However, if you book around 5 am, most likely the roads are still clear since traffic starts to build up by 6 am, so leaving your house earlier could only take a few minutes before you arrive at the airport. However, don’t forget that you still have to check-in and go to immigration so make sure you have enough spare time to not rush yourself.

If you’re not a morning person but want to experience this type of good convenience in flying, the best way to answer that is to grab a cup of coffee. You could also bring a neck pillow, blanket, and eye mask to relax yourselves and to get a proper sleeping time just before you arrive at your destination. Always remember: Smart traveling is the best way to travel.
