Safer PH Sky? PTSB is on it’s way!

Philippines’ aviation market is soaring, but mishaps could happen.

Philippines is one of the growing countries in aviation, it is also backing our economy. According to IATA’s forecast, under the “current trends” scenario, passenger air traffic, jobs and GDP footprint could soar up to 171% in the next 20 years.

Some of our issues need to be faced is poor maintenance practices, substandard aircraft parts, unethical policies by some aircraft operators, poor quality pilot training and much more.

But the question is, how we will meet these challenges if our regulators are short-staffed to watch our country’s growing aviation industry?

Asian Business Aviation Association or AsBAA thru their PH Board Governor Capt. Patrick Roa, a veteran pilot and flight instructor is currently lobbying to the congress for the creation of Philippine Transportation Safety Board or the PTSB.

Similar to US National Transportation Safety Board or the NTSB, PTSB will serve as independent agency just like DOT and CAAP., They will “carry independent accident investigation to facilitate the continued, sustainable growth of the Philippine’s aviation industry and economy” According to AsBAA.

As of this moment, Senate Bill 1077 and House Bill 9030 is currently reviewed and formally corresponded both in upper and lower house. If signed into law, “the PTSB would be a non-regulatory, independent agency attached to the Office of the President.”

Do these 2 bills will make it to the desk of the Office of the President given today is currently election season? Maybe? Let us see!
