Korean Air has agreed to collaborate on the development of urban air mobility control and simulation technologies

Korean Air has signed a deal for the backbone infrastructure that will be required for a future urban air mobility network.

The carrier will collaborate on research and development with South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT).

Korean Air’s role will be to build control and simulation systems for urban air transportation operators, according to the company. According to the airline, the flight control system will aid in flight planning, monitoring, and scheduling management, while the operator simulator system will replicate flights from the pre-flight stage to the final destination.

It’s also working on urban air mobility traffic management systems, which include things like flight plan approval, flight monitoring, and emergency response, according to the airline.

The announcement is the carrier’s latest effort into urban air mobility. The signed a deal with South Korea’s Defense Technology Promotion Institute in late December 2021 to conduct research on low-observable technology for unmanned air vehicles.
