“With a return to Windhoek, Qatar Airways is set to offer a record African network”

Qatar Airways’ return to Namibia, a popular tourist destination, comes soon after the Nigerian cities of Kano (KAN) and Port Harcourt (PHC) were inaugurated.

Could Gaborone, Botswana, make a comeback this year? Qatar Airways’ Vice-President for Africa, Hendrik Du Preez, said it would happen in 2021. He also stated that Windhoek was a possibility, and that it is currently taking place.

On June 25th, Qatar Airways will resume service to Windhoek. Three times weekly flights will be operated utilizing 254-seat B787-8s, the carrier’s preferred aircraft for Africa, with 22 business seats and 232 economy seats. The following is the Windhoek schedule, with all times in local time. It’s built for networking, as it always is:

Qatar Airways began flying to Namibia in September 2016 and will continue to do so until 2020. It used A330-200s and B787-8s at various times, and it was always a terminator service: it didn’t go anywhere else. According to OAG, it began at four times weekly and eventually increased to one time daily by the end of 2018. However, this was excessive, and the next summer, it was lowered to 5x weekly.

Qatar Airways carried more passengers from Windhoek to Germany than any other country in 2019. Namibia was a German colony, and Germans come in considerably greater numbers than any other European nationality. This year, Eurowings Discover will fly to Windhoek once a day from Frankfurt.

Qatar’s greatest origin and destination in 2019 was Paris CDG, followed by Zurich, Frankfurt, Munich, Milan Malpensa, Helsinki, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen, Moscow Domodedovo, Brussels, and Geneva, according to booking data. Over seven out of ten passengers from Windhoek flew through Doha.
