Mid-air fault sparks airport emergency

A full emergency response was launched at Dundee Airport yesterday after a flight reported a “technical fault” shortly after take-off.

Loganair flight LM661 was bound for Belfast when a problem was declared as it flew near Tillicoultry at around 1.50pm.

The aircraft returned to Dundee before circling over the airport several times.

Motorists heading along Riverside Drive described emergency services being scrambled as the aircraft prepared to land.

“We wondered what on earth was going on,” said one driver.

“There was four fire engines, two ambulances and two police vehicles at the airport.

“When we drove past we couldn’t see anything happening. I’m pleased to hear everyone is safe.”

A spokesman for Dundee Airport from HIAL confirmed the aircraft landed safely as both airport fire services and external emergency crews were “mobilised”.

He continued: “Airport fire services were mobilised after an aircraft reported a technical issue following departure from Dundee shortly before 2pm.

“External emergency services were also mobilised.

“The aircraft returned safely to the airport at approximately 2.15pm.”
