Thailand will open its country for visitors with its new Covid-19 restrictions and protocols.

On January 20, Thailand announced that the “Test and Go” program, which started last November of 2021, will return on February 1, 2022. This “Test and Go: No quarantine” program allows international tourists and visitors to enter the country with more light quarantine restrictions. However, with the spread of the Omicron variant, Thailand has proposed several more requirements before entering the country.

Thailand’s Tourism Authority explained that fully vaccinated travelers needed to present two (2) separate pre-payment reservations on a government-approved (SHA+) hotel for their Day 1 and Day 5. On both days (Day 1 and 5), the traveler must undergo a mandatory RT-PCR test inside the booked hotels, and tourists are needed to stay inside the room while they wait for their results. Results of the RT-PCR test in Thailand usually take about 6-12 hours, and if Covid would not be detected, the traveler is free to go. However, unvaccinated international travelers are needed to undergo a 10-day quarantine on Thailand’s designated quarantine hotels. In addition, travelers must also take an RT-PCR test before departing for Thailand, which results should be within 72 hours from departure.

While quarantine is not mandatory in Thailand, visitors will be under the country’s “Sandbox Program”; during their first seven days in the country, in which they need to stay in one of these destinations; Krabi, Phang-Na, Phuket, Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, or Ko Tao

In addition, one of the basic requirements in traveling to Thailand is the Thailand pass, which would be by a QR Code which makes the documentation and process of traveling more convenient. You can’t enter Thailand without the said pass, so travelers must process this ahead of time to avoid conflicts in processing your papers and accommodation. For the Thailand pass, you can visit https://tp.consular.go.th/ to register and apply.

Lastly, travelers should be able to provide proof that they have acquired covid-19 insurance.

On a daily average, Thailand reports around 7,000 new Covid cases each day. Meanwhile, 79.6% of its population is fully vaccinated.
