AirAsia Philippines’ domestic travel winging its way up in January despite the increase in Covid-19 cases

It is no secret that the Philippine economy has been greatly affected by the Pandemic, every industry in the country has suffered many losses, and the aviation and tourism industry was no exception. Yet despite the unprecedented challenges brought by the Pandemic, AirAsia Philippines remains committed to its core, making extra efforts to provide the service and security passengers deserve.

AirAsia Philippines’ domestic travel has not been affected by the increase in Covid-19 cases in January. Data showed that the airline has regained 42% of its pre-Covid flight frequency at the beginning of this year.

This World’s best low-cost airline did not disappoint as the capacity for January 2022 has shown a huge rise with an increase of 182% compared to last year’s. On top of that, seats sold increased by 200% in contrast to last year’s month of January. Load factor has likewise increased by 10%. Places such as Caticlan, Cebu, and Tacloban remained the top destinations for leisure and essential travel.

With that, in preparation for a large number of travelers, the airline is increasing its domestic flights for Davao, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, Puerto Princesa, Panglao as well as Kalibo in February.

As positive outcomes came in AirAsia Philippines’ way, reassuring words were uttered by Spokesperson Steve Dailisan, “We will continue to serve our guests this 2022 with safe and timely flights. We, in the travel industry, also have our sights set on cautiously restoring our pre-pandemic flight frequency this year as we are positive the pandemic will take a turn for the better before end-2022. This is on top of ensuring that despite challenges posed by emerging variants, and new protocols, our operations are at an optimum— allowing us to avoid flight disruptions.”

Moreover, hybrid and sweeper flights are in partnership with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) that will fly returning overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who are in need to return to their provinces. This indeed is a piece of good news for people who are the heroes of our time for they will be able to be back together with their families. At the beginning of January this year, there were 2,500 passengers AirAsia Philippines was able to fly home.

Right now, this leading travel and lifestyle airline is managing an 80% on-time performance (OTP). This just proves that most flights did meet both the scheduled departure and arrival times in all of their destinations, of course only for circumstances under the airline’s control.

AirAsia Philippines has always prioritized the safety and well-being of its passengers. The Covid-19 booster shot campaign in alliance with the local government units is the mere reason why they can carry on and have an all-go flight. 50% Allstars have already been vaccinated with the booster shot as of January 27 of 2022.

As one of the most trusted airlines in the Philippines, AirAsia has always complied with the health protocols, and to ensure the safety of everyone the airline implemented the strict compliance of digital health declaration form every day for all the employees. And for employees like the Flight crew, ground staff, and other staff who are required to report to the office, they need to have daily Antigen tests.

And so Spokesperson Dailisan guarantees that they will continuously adapt to changes and improve in the post-pandemic recovery in the first 3 months of 2022, “Our system in place is proven to work to our advantage, and we will keep it that way to ensure that we will be able to serve our guests in the coming months, bringing them home safe and sound.”
