A recent video that showed Afghans trying to get up a parked Kam Air Airbus A340 aircraft went viral. The Afghan civilians were hoping to leave the country after the Taliban took over the government. Pictures also show the Afghans sitting on top of the A340. This particular Kam Air A340 on the video is actually a former Philippine Airlines aircraft!

From RP-C3438 to YA-KMH

If you will look closely at the pictures, you will see “MH” on the front landing gear doors of the A340. This means that the registry of the aircraft is YA-KMH. Kam Air operates a total of 4 A340s.

Checking Airfleets.net, the YA-KMH A340 in the video was a former PAL aircraft with registry RP-C3438! Out of the 4, A340 Kam Air operates, three were former PAL aircraft. Aside from YA-KMH, other former PAL A340s now operating at Kam Air are YA-KMU which is formerly RP-C3435, YA-KME which is formerly RP-C3436, and YA-KMH.

This A340 has an average age of 20.6 years. It was one of the ex-Iberia A340s purchased by then-PAL president Ramon Ang in 2013.

We just hope that all the craziness now happening in Afghanistan soon ends. Sad to see all that is unfolding after the civilians were desperately climbing the A340 with the hope of fleeing.
